5 Trillion Single-Use Plastic Bags Are Used Every Year
BoWorkwear changed my life. I started this company because I wanted to provide an alternative to conventionally made aprons. Although I was conscious of my efforts to be sustainable, it was my customers who inspired me to take a few steps further. During the time I launched on March 1st and up until now, I'm 10x more conscious of my sustainable efforts, and it's been an amazing journey.
Speaking of sustainability, June 5th is World Environment Day.
You might have seen on Instagram, incredible people from all around the world are pledging to do something about plastic pollution. It's a beautiful thing to watch- one that stood out for me is from Moby
According to the World Environment Day's website:
Around the world, one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used every year. In total, half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once – and then thrown away.
Reducing how much plastic we use is a crucial first step, and this World Environment Day the United Nations is supporting a global awareness campaign to discourage the use of disposable plastic products.
In my last blog post , I talked about two simple ways to reduce plastic.
Today, I want to talk about two more simple ways on reducing plastic:
1) I bring my own reusable shopping bags to the store. Sometimes I end up buying too much, so I'll opt for the paper bag. They are easier to recycle because they go right into your curbside bin. If for some reason you have no choice, most grocery stores have a plastic bag recycling bin .
2) I also bring my own reusable produce bags! Every time I go to the farmer's market and store, I bring them. It has saved me from tons of little plastic bags.
That's it. Easy peas-y. Enjoy the rest of your week and let me know if you do something for World Environment Day.
